Goblin Slayer Manga

” Enough banter, where are the goblins? “ : Goblin Slayer.

He really is Batman with the cold rage of the Punisher.

Ever thought about a DC type batman badass character in the japanese manga industry? Probably no. Goblin Slayer the main character is exactly like Batman if not rich as fuck. He is badass, edgy, autistic and yet smart and is well aware of the world around him especially those green bastards : Goblins.

He is not super strong nor is he anyone exceptional but is a near average adventurer that ONLY kills Goblins or nothing. The manga is a sequel to the Goblin Slayer light novels. It has a more in-depth story while the light novel has more in-depth character and story focus. The manga puts the ripples aside of what the light novels missed out on. It tells the backstory of the characters especially of Goblin Slayer and his reason for the thrust of death towards all Goblins.

The manga contains partially less details than the light novels. The manga is a LOT graphic and gore than the light novels after all the bad scenes would be done in a line or two . If you are a fainthearted person then I do NOT recommend you to read Goblin Slayer manga. It is a merciless and doesn’t shy on showing the darkest content possible.

Ranging from rape, brutal honour killings and other graphic content. However both the manga and light novels have a solid art. It does a great job on showing shadows and darkness to show forth the dark setting and terror present in the world.

The manga succeeds at showing us both the dark and the bright side of that world. While there are stinking, dangerous dungeons full of murderous, blood lusty creatures while also having a growing cast of friendly likeable creatures. It is one of those reads that touch topics which many wouldn’t touch or avoid making it a rare read.

This manga of Goblin Slayer focuses more on the story and the supportings ( minor ) characters in a whole. Written by Kumo Kagyu, Goblin Slayer Year One clears the air that the other mangas left out. Being a sequel to the actual light novel, this manga was as solid as the prequel( hands down! ).

Spoilers Ahead…………

The manga right at the start shows us the dark world GS is present in. It warns us right in the beginning that this manga is not for the faint-hearted but those with a heart made of steel. The manga begins with a rough start. It shows us his tragic life as a kid and tells us the reason for his extreme grudge against the Goblins.

The reason is that the goblin slayer’s village was attacked by a group of Goblins which led to the butchering of his village and his dear sister getting raped along with other women. Yet, none came to save him and his village even after knowing the goblins attacked and destroyed the whole village and killed every other villager. The Adventurers didn’t come because the Goblins were regarded as low creatures.

After he survived the goblin massacre of his village. He trained with rhea and promised himself the death to all Goblins and vengeance for what the green bastards did.

Much after his training, he went to the town in the hope of becoming an adventurer and crossed the path with his old friend but walked past her. Although he seemed not to notice her, the girl did but being abstracted she failed to open up. Upon entering the adventurers guild, Goblin Slayer met the receptionist. After filling in the details and receiving the beginners badge : Porcelain Rank, he immediately took a Goblin Slaying quest much to the dismay of the Guilde Girl.

He henceforth started preparing for the raid and visited the Smith’s shop to buy a helmet and breastplate while having to meet an another adventurer of the same guilde. Surprised by the choice of weapons of GS both the adventurer and the Blacksmith thought weird of him. He wasn’t fancied by fame and money and was an adventurer only for self-interest was made clear the smith’s shop itself.

The young adventurer, GS upon reaching the Goblin cave scouted it and then raided it. He fought through a numerous lot of Goblins keeping count of every Goblins. In the process, he got poisoned and as he was reaching out for his antidote he’d realized it had broken. Being calm and composed he’d suck the broken glass of antidote and regain his footing. Just after that he was confronted by a Hobgoblin and a Goblin Shayman.

At the very hint of dying he fought against both the superior Goblins, young goblins and eventually killed them all. Saving the female captives and returning them to the village. He made his way back to the town. Only to get reunited by the old friend of his the Cow Girl who precedently spotted GS and convinced him to stay with her and her uncle in the farm.

He met and assisted another party (that included an adventurer who registered the same day he did) during a goblin slaying quest involving only three goblins. Despite his odd demeanor, the party asked him to join them for their next mission, but Goblin Slayer refused due to it not involving any goblins. During the conversation, a goblin who was feigning death attacked, but was quickly dealt with. Dissatisfied with his current knowledge on goblins, he began to dissect the goblin, much to the party’s disgust. Shortly after word got out of the incident, Guild Girl advised him not to do such things again, as they could create a misunderstanding.

As the adventurer was setting up defenses against goblins for a village, a young girl met and talked with him, curious about what he was up to. That rainy night, Goblin Slayer began to slay the goblins that made their way through his fence. He soon found himself swarmed by the goblins, who began bludgeoning him with their clubs. After seeing that one of the goblins had the same dagger as the one his sister gave him, he motivated himself to get up and kill the remaining twenty-five goblins. Despite the victory, his injuries resulted in him having to be sent to the Temple of the Earth Mother, where a young acolyte healed him.

Some time after finishing his quest report, he came across the leader of the party he helped earlier and learned that the people had given him the nickname “Goblin Slayer”. He then returned to the farm, where Cow Girl invited him to eat stew.quipped in plate armor and grubby leather armor with chain mail underneath paired with his signature cheap-looking helmet (which originally had horns) that envelops his head entirely in protective metal. However, due to the excellent sense of smell goblins possess, Goblin Slayer has a habit of neglecting the cleanliness of his armor as clean equipment would reek of metal, which would immediately alert goblins.

In contrast, Goblin Slayer’s seemingly poor appearance is often mocked and ridiculed by most who fail to see the practicality and effective functionality behind it. Moreover, the grimy appearance combined with his down-grade equipment has, on more than one occasion, caused people to mistake him for an undead.

Goblin Slayer usually carries a cheap and disposable sword of a short length hanging on his left hip in a makeshift scabbard, allowing him to place swords of any shape he salvages. Affixed to his left arm is a small round target, its rim well maintained to be used as a backup cutting weapon.

Goblin Slayer is stoic and calm in most circumstances and is simply unable to devote himself to the majority of things outside of preparations to deal with Goblins after the traumatizing ordeal he went through as a child. Because of this, he lacks the ability to understand certain social norms and doesn’t notice the affections of those around him. His companions work to help him overcome this, but the process is difficult and arduous.

His desire to kill goblins stems from two places: to prevent what happened to his village from happening to others and to get revenge by eliminating every single member of their race. To this end, he has a single-minded devotion that has led him to being rigorous in hunting them down, leaving nothing to chance, and pushing those under his tutelage into being just as prepared. He will not hesitate to put himself against odds that will all but ensure his death, being more than willing to face off against a goblin hoard of at least 100 to kill as many as he can before they kill him.

Goblin Slayer was once an ordinary boy in a village, who wanted to be an adventurer when he grew up. One day, his best friend left to work on a farm for a few days, and the two fought because he couldn’t go with her. Later that night, his village was attacked by goblins and everyone he knew was killed.

He hid in his house’s basement until nightfall, while watching what was happening through a crack in the floorboards. At nightfall, he sneaked out of the house to see all of the corpses, but was attacked by the goblins who hadn’t left yet. He was saved from death by a rhea; whom he spent five years training with before parting ways.
